It is with profound sadness that I write this today. Yesterday, it was announced that Sir Patrick Moore passed away at his home in Selsey, aged 89.

Like so many amateur astronomers in this country, I watched and followed him on the BBC's 'The Sky at Night' for many, many years. His infectious enthusiasm, rapid-fire delivery, and absolute dedication to the subject were entirely unparalleled. Without a doubt, he was the primary reason I first became interested in astronomy; his broadcasts were the true catalyst that first got me looking up and wondering about the night sky.

I was incredibly lucky to actually meet him in person at Astrofest back in 2009. It is a cherished memory of a genuinely amazing man. You can read my original post about meeting him here.

He leaves behind an incredible legacy, having inspired countless individuals across multiple generations to explore the cosmos. The astronomical community has lost a true titan, and he will be sorely missed.
