Another major win for the European Space Agency this month as the Euclid space telescope successfully launched from Cape Canaveral. It is now on its way to join the James Webb Space Telescope out at the L2 Lagrange point.

Euclid's mission is both singular and profound: to map the dark universe.

Over the next six years, it will observe billions of galaxies across more than a third of the sky, creating the largest and most accurate 3D map of the cosmos ever made. By measuring how dark matter warps the light of distant galaxies, and how dark energy accelerates the expansion of the universe, it hopes to shed light on the two biggest mysteries in modern physics.
